This past month, summer officially arrived and brought many lively book club discussions with it! Our team is settling into our new location nicely with a kids’ pop-up in our flex space, creativity-sparking writing workshops, and the prospect of in-person of events on the horizon.

We kicked off the month with a passionate group, according to our bookseller Amanda, sharing their thoughts on Malindo Lo’s Last Night at the Telegraph Club for our Old Town Books Book(s) Club. It’s a great YA pick for Pride Month and the whole year round!

June Book Club News Round-Up:

  • Our beloved Bad Romance Book Club met virtually to talk through Casey McQuiston’s sophomore novel, One Last Stop. Join the BRBC next week as they return to historical romance with Cat Sebastian’s The Queer Principles of Kit Webb.

  • Our resident spooky-lovers, the Murder by the Book Club, delved into Elon Green’s Last Call. Join them next month with a return to fiction with Camille Sten’s chilling novel The Lost Village.

  • Our Sci-fi/Fantasy club discussed Andrea Stewart’s epic fantasy debut, The Bone Shard Daughter, now out in paperback. This month they will be dissecting The Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark. We’ve got signed copies on hand for both titles, so come check it out!

In addition to our monthly clubs, the June events calendar was rounded out by several interactive artistic offerings:

  • Kristen Zory King hosted the last of her springtime writing workshops. The workshops were free, but Old Town Books also accepted Pay-What-You-Can donations for our nonprofit Book Love program. Join our e-newsletter list to stay up-to-date for future workshops and events!

  • We set up our second pop-up event, focusing on books and creative activities for kids and middle-grade readers. It will be up through the month of July, so be sure to stop by and pick up some fun summer reading picks.
